DDC Public Affairs has an exciting opportunity for a high-energy, strategic, and creative VP/SVP of Media Strategy to join a dynamic team of professionals delivering world class public affairs and advocacy support to a diverse mix of clients spanning across all major industries, including Energy, Healthcare and Technology. The ideal candidate is a builder and an experienced storyteller, a media relations expert who is excited to develop and expand this specialty within a public affairs firm, and everything that comes with that: showcasing the expertise to clients, training junior and midlevel staff, and building relationships with senior colleagues to identify opportunities for client partnership.

We are seeking a candidate with proven leadership and client management experience, superior writing skills, excellent media relations skills and strong, established relationships with key Beltway and top tier reporters, the ability to liaise and provide meaningful client counsel; a person who can manage and mentor entry level staff, work with senior leaders to continually bring fresh ideas to the table; a person who knows the importance of traditional media relations, and has insight to integrate social media and other offerings to drive maximum results. Previous agency experience preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute creative external media strategies, thought leadership programs, and internal communications plans on behalf of our clients. Draft, edit, and provide strategic advice on executive communications for clients.

  • Provide direction to internal teams on media strategy, content creation, editorial management, and creative services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality results to meet client requirements. Function as a teacher and mentor to public affairs staff eager to learn media strategy and media relations, working individually as well as developing trainings

  • Work seamlessly and collaboratively across business units (including public affairs, corporate communications, and paid media) both within DDC and across Omnicom’s Public Relations Group, with diverse stakeholders and objectives, always with an eye towards how we can expand and enhance our engagements with existing clients through external communications

  • Develop, oversee, and execute corporate reputation, stakeholder engagement, and integrated marketing and communications programs and campaigns.

  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of clients' businesses and industries, along with the industry issues that directly and indirectly impact the client.

Success Factors:

  • Minimum 10+ years experience developing and implementing integrated communications programs. Agency experience is preferred but not required.

  • Strong corporate industry experience and business understanding as well as a deep knowledge of local, state and federal government

  • Significant experience working with top-tier media outlets, particularly inside-the-beltway (e.g. Axios, Politico, Punchbowl, Washington Post).

  • Strong analytical, critical, creative and strategic thinker with excellent (and actionable) writing skills

  • Consistent track record leading efforts for and winning new business – via incremental growth of current business and/or new business opportunities

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-past environment while delivering quality results; can prioritize and execute against multiple projects with teams and client partners.

  • Proactively generate new ideas and opportunities to support client business & communications objectives

  • Possess exceptional client relations and management skills; experience managing accounts for profitability and effectiveness which includes establishing KPIs, overseeing and developing budgets, scopes and team structures

  • Have a thorough understanding of the digital landscape and provide hands-on social and digital support, including counsel, content development, and digital strategy for clients across multiple digital platforms.

  • Solid team leadership and team building experience, including management of local teams and distributed teams

  • Entrepreneurial spirit, energetic self-starter, problem solver

  • A bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field required
