FleishmanHillard Account Supervisor, Media Strategy in Washington, District Of Columbia

We are hiring an Account Supervisor to support our corporate reputation and public affairs clients. This position will play a key role on several pieces of business, ensuring that our clients’ corporate stories are told to their key stakeholders across a variety of platforms. The ideal candidate is a true self-starter and enthusiastic about joining a team that is building a new specialty within a public affairs firm.

We are seeking a candidate with superior writing skills, excellent media relations skills and strong, established relationships with key Beltway reporters, the ability to liaise and provide meaningful client counsel; a person who can manage and mentor entry level staff, work with senior leaders to continually bring fresh ideas to the table; a person who knows the importance of traditional media relations, and has insight to integrate social media and other offerings to drive maximum results.

This role is perfect for someone with 5-7 years experience who would like the opportunity to work closely with senior leaders and clients; results-driven and an aptitude to bring creative ideas from strategy through execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Own media relations for your clients: drive media results across your accounts by proactively pitching media daily and secure coverage for clients (local, regional, national); generate client thought leadership opportunities;

  • Develop impactful media-focused content –creative pitches, press releases, strategic recommendations and briefing documents, advise on the development of creative assets

  • Regularly monitor the news and flag trending topics in the media as well as competitive market and industry information;

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with media, journalists and influencers; follow media moves closely to know when reporters get assigned to new posts or join new publications

  • Moderate client media interviews; assist with media training for clients; initiate implementation of media events such as media dinners/breakfasts, briefings and media tours; represent clients and products at industry conferences and events

  • Proactively manage and mentor junior staff to facilitate their growth – reviewing and editing draft materials, guiding media outreach, support on strategy development

  • Provide hands-on social and digital support for clients, as needed, assisting with content development to provide a media strategy angle; when possible, utilize the agency’s paid media offerings to enhance earned media programs

  • Drive story development and influence an ongoing and positive dialogue that supports the client’s overall strategy.

  • Actively support the pitch process for new business (including research and capabilities presentations and/or contribute media ideas for broader presentations) and attend new business pitches as appropriate; find creative ways to contribute to organic growth of existing accounts

Success Factors:

  • 5+ years of experience working in at a public relations agency and/or comms department of a company in the tech space

  • Superior oral and written communication skills; strong proofreading and editing ability

  • Demonstrated proficiency in media relations (story pitching to traditional media and digital influencers, writing releases and bylined articles, ability to find creative angles and create highly targeted media strategies and pitches)

  • Experience in providing guidance to entry level staffers; strong team building and mentorship aptitude

  • Maintain knowledge and a demonstrated understanding of industry publications, national top tier and business press, broadcast, and mainstream media Maintain a thorough understanding of clients’ businesses and industries; become an expert on clients’ products and services; have the ability to demonstrate these products to media

  • Proven ability to think strategically, creatively and proactively; exhibit a facility for problem solving and close attention to detail

  • Strong interpersonal skills, Team oriented with the proven ability to work in partnership with others as well as independently

  • can work effectively with teams, varying time zones and workflows

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field
